funny tattoos - Tonight, on SyFy

It somehow manages to be even campier than the original Godzilla. Bravo.

Yeah! More crap! Keep it coming! THIS is what I love about this site! This and the snappy comments. This obviously took a long time to do, it’s quite large. And yet, it really makes no sense. Well, Godzilla fighting the squid kind of does, but what are those round things on chains supposed to be? Maces?

    • pnkroc says:

I think that it could look really good once completed, I dont really know why you would just have the outline photographed but whatevs. I think those are actually those submarine mines that you find underwater taking the submarine and the aquatic life into account. I dont know I may be giving this person too much credit!

    • Absynthe says:

      I think they’re underwater mines.

    • derek says:

I was on a Mine sweeper in the Navy and they represent the number of real mines I took part in taking out in the US so yeah…

    • derek says:

Ok this is my tattoo and I was in the Navy for 4 years and I was stationed on a minesweeper seen in godzillas hand. And the mines around it are the mines I took place in blowing up so Aircraft carriers could get to there destonations. The random sea life is thinging I have actually seen out in the ocean. And as for godzilla it was my dads fav. movie that I grew up watching with him and after he pasted away I got this to remmber him in kinda a funny way. It’s is not finished because I was deployed over seas and on my return the tattoo artist had quit the shop I got this much done at. So I have found another artist and this will be finished very soon and it looks better in person than in this picture anyway.

I’m baffled by the “maces” too. If you look at the bottom of the picture, they might be supposed to be at the bottom of the ocean, so maybe they’re mines. The squid is using one as a mace.

THIS, this is the stuff, JackNick! Set ‘em up and keep ‘em coming.

    • tonique says:

They’re supposed to be “maces”? I thought they’d be such large balls used to demolish buildings… or perhaps kinky mirrorballs.

Perhaps Mothra could be added here to make it cooler.

      • Thistle Dew says:

I am seeing the floating mines from WWII. See the one on the top exploding.

        • tonique says:

Ok, that’s a better guess than mine.

        • Seven says:

Funny story about that… My grandpa was a navigator on a bomber in WWII and he used to go on scotch runs for the officers through those. One time he had a really nervous pilot who he had to straighten out for repeatedly pulling up and out-out of fear, which of course could have Ben the end for all of them. Anyway can’t see those things without thinkin’ of that story!

  3. Robbie says:

    FOR ALL THE REGULARS:

Here’s your challenge. I’m sitting here looking at FreeForums, and I’ll start one up myself if anybody gives me a good name for it. (And if you don’t mind me being rather an absentee landlord.)

This would NOT be intended to replace UT, or to be restricted to UT people, or even to be about tattoos, but just to provide another place for some witty and weird folks to hang out.

  4. CJ says:

On closer inspection, that blue thing is a stingray. Hard to see because it’s in the dark. THAT at least, appears to be well done, as is the squid. It stops making sense when you get to GODZILLA!!!

  5. Chris says:

I know I shouldn’t, but I kind of like this. It’s craptastic but, the outlines at least, are pretty well done.

    Could turn into something good!
    maybe…

  6. nickcburger says:

NOTE FROM MANAGEMENT: Catbutt was removed due to superoldness. Keep calm and carry on.

  7. Pectolatra says:

This is UT material at its finest! Even my coworkers stopped for a moment to stare at this mess. It’s so random and poorly drawn it’s unbelievable.

Nick, you just scored another point!

    • Jill says:

This is an awful photo, but I don’t find this one poorly drawn at all. The objects all have good proportion to one another, with each object given ample space to develop. I think it’s as Canaduck said above, a work-in-progress. Outlines now, except for the ray.

Look again at the entire nautical theme. On the right, the ray, the squid, the huge jellyfish. Then the mines as a repeated motif. Huge Godzilla, stands on the ocean floor, grounding the drawing into a clear context. Little wisps of seaweed. The tiny starfish near Godzilla’s huge foot is a good visual contrast. The sea water will somehow be suggested behind, tying all together.

This can end up a really good backpiece if the colors chosen and shading find harmony among themselves.

      • Robbie says:

It’s pretty bad. It looks like something cobbled together from clip art. The individual items are well drawn, but they don’t come together into anything coherent. Why is Godzilla balancing a ship like a waiter with a tray? Why is the squid just hanging there motionless? The parts don’t form a whole.

When your first thought is “what the hell?”, that’s generally a sign of poor design.

        • Jill says:

Ok, but I’m trying to be positive Robbie.
My first impression was random shït but then I looked as realized there’s a plan. Nothing I’d want on my back but it could end up as lovely as Snow White. (?)

  8. Owl says:

This is what we come to see. Why is the squid red? Is that a motion line cutting it in half? What are those big round things with the spikes? Why would you want a notebook doodle from science class ALL OVER your back?

    I like thinking about things.

  9. scf says:

The upper spikey-thing-on-a-chain strongly reminds me of the chain dog (“Struppi” in the german version) from The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. I can even hear his “barkbark”-sound in my head now..oh, fond memories. I didn’t remember the Moblins hitting each other with ships, though.

    Craptastic!!!

The original “Godzilla” wasn’t very campy. You’re thinking of the later crap classics such as “Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster.” But comparing this tattoo even to that movie is too much of a compliment. :/
