Wait a Minute . . .

Wait a Minute . . .

Interesting. Perhaps it’s because the extent of my Bob Marley knowledge comes from the three months in college when I listened to Legend before realizing that I’m not a dirty hippie, but I don’t remember the era of his career where he was JIMI HENDRIX.

  1. holyhobo says:

the tattoo itself isn’t ugly, it’s just very unfortunate that the person got the name wrong.

  2. derpty derp says:

Oh, dear. Let the un-PC jokes begin…..

(This one is new to me, by the way.)

  3. Sharlee says:

    Oh. Oh my.

  4. Glass House says:

It’s just got to be an inside joke. Really. My faith in humanity depends on it.

  5. Czernobog says:

Looking at the thumbnail I thought “what, another decent tattoo?” I’m… I’m so sorry to find that I wa wrong about it.

  6. surrealfarm says:

That guy in gonna have to live with that mistake, too. I wonder how many people come up to him to tell him that it’s Hendrix?

  7. surrealfarm says:

I searched, and this is the closest look that Marley had to Hendrix, and it STILL ain’t that close.

  8. Captain Awesome says:

heh heh heh HA HA HAHAHAHAHAHA! tool.

  9. Erwtje says:

*Cringe* I’m assuming you’d know what your hero looks like.
So the owner of this just felt the urge to have a random music legend tattooed on them??

Sacrilege!! But maybe it wouldn’t be too bad to have Bob tattooed right underneath Jimi, and then give Jimi a banner hovering over his head. Or something. Anything.

  10. Josie says:

    And it’s such a spectacular tattoo otherwise…shame.

  11. Rauss says:

As a massive Hendrix fan, this is just awful.

The fact the tattoo itself is pretty damn good just further adds to the outrage.

  12. Justin says:

I know the artist that did this tattoo. The guy got this as a joke. Both him and the artist know the portrait is Jimi Hendrix. It was done at Asylum Studios in Salem, VA.

    • Glass House says:

Phew! Faith in humanity is RESTORED!! Thank you Justin, I knew it had to be a joke. The portrait is entirely too well done for the banner to be a mistake.

      • Frog says:

Well, I heard of this “joke” in France (I remember we discussed it with my friends, once), and we made some T-shirts about that.
        But again, it’s just a T-shirt…

Getting a tattoo of this one-time funny joke? Bof bof.

      • A. Person says:

I…I… don’t know what to believe anymore. First the orphanage burns down, then those nuns die when a bus blows up……..

    • Ryan S~ says:

I have to ask, what was the joke?

    • electric says:

I always have to wonder when something happens like this, or a horrible misspelling, if that tattoo artist just sits there quietly chuckling to himself, and goes along with it. But even if this is a joke…I can’t think of one explaination that would make me crack a smile. “Dude, this one time, I was soo stoned that I thought the black light poster of Hendrix was actually Marley! heh. heh.”

    • Amb says:

this is a terrible joke then…

  13. GintokisGirl95 says:

BOB MARLEY and JIMI HENDRIX are two different people.

  14. Kristen says:

Dude I know the artist and this was done on Purpose so all these little jokes n shit aint shit. . . He’s a sick ass artist and he knows his shit. . . . (the end) -Shangu’

    • Simon says:

^^and when i say “First”, i mean i posted a link to this image in the discussion below some other tattoo somewhere on UT months ago.

credit to the artist that everyone instantly knows it’s hendrix.

  15. Lilly says:

A few years later he started wearing make up and became Prince.

  16. Jimbo says:

What a douchebag! This makes me Angry!!

  17. BehindGreyEyes says:

Head, this is Desk. Desk, let me introduce you to my friend, Head….
    :|

  18. dirty hippie says:

hendrix is the greatist guitarist ever. i was12 when he toured buffalo, and my parents did not let me go. did see marley blow the crowd away in madison. the audience wept, as we knew he was dying.

  19. nic says:

Ahahaaaaahhhahahahahahahahhahahaaa ha ha ha ha ha ha hee hee hee hee hee hee hee
    (winds down, giggling)
    hee hee hee

Man, what a FUNNY joke! I couldn’t get over it! Doing Hendrix and calling him Marley! Wow, brilliant! (Sarcasm there, see?)

  20. cassie says:

whats sad is that this is a very well executed tattoo.. youd think someone would have noticed/said something before he actually got tattooed

  21. al says:

Sorry… for a moment I thought it was Bob Ross

  22. Kirsten says:

So if I got a tattoo of David Bowie, and the letters underneath said John Lennon, it would be a hilarious joke, even I don’t actually get why it’s funny?

    • Orionsbelt3 says:

No. It is funny in the trying-way-to-hard (times 10) kind of funny which ends up making it funny in a whacked out kind of way. Or maybe not. It really depends on your mood/state of mind at the time you spot this tat and it’s explained to you. But, 7 times out of 10 you think, “What a douche.” The other 3 times out of 10 you high five said tatted dude/chick and laugh hysterically together and/or you curl up in a ball and whimper.

  23. Sarah says:

I was thinking that maybe this was on a person whose alphabet is very different than English…. you know…. like when white folks get a tattoo with Chinese symbols? And maybe there was a mistake…. but no, I see that it’s done on purpose which totally SUCKS!

  24. TehObvious says:

I thought it was Samuel L. Jackson

  25. TehObvious says:

Guess it just goes to prove that they really do all look alike

  26. Wholigan says:

I understand that this is a joke, but is it really funny enough to make it worthwhile to have a ton of people come up to you and call you an idiot? Especially when after you explain that it’s a joke, they still call you an idiot.

  27. Parkersmom says:

I don’t understand how this is a joke. Unless the the person who got the tattoo enjoys being ridiculed for being stupid, and the joke is on him. Permanently. And he likes it that way. I vote douche 10 out of 10 also.

Jimi Hendrix is Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley is Bob Marley, so WTF?

  28. Darius says:

Yeah, gotta add my two cents of WTF? to the pile. But damn, one of the best portrait tattoos I’ve seen.

  29. Brenna says:

Omg I LOVE his song “Buffalo Child.” …Or was it “Voodoo Soldier?” I can’t quite remember.

  30. Riri says:

Wrong black guy, you dolt! Contrary to your belief, they don’t all look alike.

  31. Asylummorgan says:

Haha hey everyone. Its amazing to see this tattoo got so much popularity and infamy from thousands of people. This tattoo was done on purpose. It is Jimi Hendrix. The banner does say Bob Marley. The guy who got it is a DJ and wondered how much shit this tattoo would get haha.
We did it at my studio… and while you may not agree with the tattoo..haha you cant deny its an amazing piece of work…

we also thought of other funny ones.. like get a tattoo of Emilio Estevez and get a banner saying “michael j fox”
    ish like that

  32. Leanna says:

NOT funny at all. Hit yourself.

  33. Tiffanie says:

Yes, beautiful tattoo. Really stupid joke. Epic fail on the funny part.

  34. Peter says:

    he could add:
“couldn’t string Jimi Hendrix’s guitar” or words to that effect.
    Just saying ;)

  35. piercedpikachu says:

    the MOST epic tattoo FAIL!

  36. funkymunkey says:

With all the bad tattoos that are out there, horrible artwork, etc… I have to say, I’ll take a joke (whether funny or not) over bad artwork any day… on a personal note, I think this tattoo is both well done as a portrait and I can appreciate the humor.

  37. african apparel says:

This is a rip off from british t shirt company African apparel-this was their first shirt a few years back. http://africanapparel.bigcartel.com/

  38. Mrdogvomit says:

It could have been worse, a lot worse. It could have said Bono underneath. Mrdogvomit

  39. Alex says:

Someone should kick that person in the mouth
    thats just insulting…

  40. OICU81or2 says:

I’ve never really wanted a tattoo, but if I would, this would be the one…with the correct name, of course. Hendrix is the epitome of guitar playing, hands down. Hmmmm…maybe I’ll go get him tat’d on my bald spot!!! ;)

  41. Dunce says:

    Oh… ohhh…. ohhh… wow… ohhh… biggest ink fail ever.

  42. steve says:

even if this is a joke it is just disrespectful to the artist because they have done great things and changed music forever to just go and crack a joke its like what the hell were you thinking?

  43. shit says:

maybe the guy was trying to be racist by not know which one was which or something to that extent, after all he did use the gangster letters

  44. ytbox says:

    Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  45. Dirty Hippie says:

Because I listen to Music about life and love and freedom from a legend like Bob Marley you call me a Dirty Hippie ? I just lost respect for you and Have now changed my TV Channel and have blocked TV 6 news

  46. FantasticKilljoyXD says:
