Interesting. Perhaps it’s because the extent of my Bob Marley knowledge comes from the three months in college when I listened to Legend before realizing that I’m not a dirty hippie, but I don’t remember the era of his career where he was JIMI HENDRIX.

Copy & paste this:

the tattoo itself isn’t ugly, it’s just very unfortunate that the person got the name wrong.
read the scroll over….
no seriously. You will LOL your @#$%ing @$$ off.
L O L
Oh, dear. Let the un-PC jokes begin…..
(This one is new to me, by the way.)
Oh. Oh my.
That’s exactly what I said, too. :-/
It’s just got to be an inside joke. Really. My faith in humanity depends on it.
Holy shit. You still have faith in humanity?
I don’t any more, not after this.
I’m off to burn down an orphanage and blow up a bus full of nuns, just because.
Best. Comment. Ever.
I really really hope so. Really.
Maybe it’s a racist joke. Like “all black people look alike.” Maybe this person belongs to the KKK.
Question? Why would a KKK member have a black person tattooed on them?
To keep score!
(rimshot)
The best friend of a “grand wizard” of the kkk is black. They have tea together, they just don’t discuss politics.
http://www.duclarion.com/2.964/black-man-s-odyssey-into-ku-klux-klan-1.46289?pagereq=1
Politics?? You mean the fact that the KKK hate black people?? Does he make an exception on Sundays or something?
this whole concept is RIDICULOUS
I believe because of their friendship that “wizard” left the Klan. The black man now has the Klan robe as a souvenir of sorts.
As a joke. Duh. Like I said, maybe it’s a play off of that whole moronic “Everyone from *insert ethnic group here* looks alike.”
Which I never got. Everyone looks different to me no matter what ethnic group they are.
It’s from the movie Brotherhood of the Traveling Afro. It confuses white people.
Never good to have inside jokes tattooed on your body for eternity. Because that’s the trouble with an inside joke: 99% of the people around you WILL NOT UNDERSTAND IT!
Looking at the thumbnail I thought “what, another decent tattoo?” I’m… I’m so sorry to find that I wa wrong about it.
Also, did anyone else read “wait a minute” in Otis Day’s voice?
No, I heard James Brown, from “Sex Machine”.
superb
That guy in gonna have to live with that mistake, too. I wonder how many people come up to him to tell him that it’s Hendrix?
Not enough. Never enough. His life should be an eternal hell of people coming up to him and correcting him.
I hope he gets kicked everytime he shows someone this tattoo.
I searched, and this is the closest look that Marley had to Hendrix, and it STILL ain’t that close.
heh heh heh HA HA HAHAHAHAHAHA! tool.
I’m pretty sure all those guys are white.
*snickers*
*Cringe* I’m assuming you’d know what your hero looks like.
So the owner of this just felt the urge to have a random music legend tattooed on them??
Sacrilege!! But maybe it wouldn’t be too bad to have Bob tattooed right underneath Jimi, and then give Jimi a banner hovering over his head. Or something. Anything.
And it’s such a spectacular tattoo otherwise…shame.
As a massive Hendrix fan, this is just awful.
The fact the tattoo itself is pretty damn good just further adds to the outrage.
I know the artist that did this tattoo. The guy got this as a joke. Both him and the artist know the portrait is Jimi Hendrix. It was done at Asylum Studios in Salem, VA.
Phew! Faith in humanity is RESTORED!! Thank you Justin, I knew it had to be a joke. The portrait is entirely too well done for the banner to be a mistake.
Well, I heard of this “joke” in France (I remember we discussed it with my friends, once), and we made some T-shirts about that.
But again, it’s just a T-shirt…
Getting a tattoo of this one-time funny joke? Bof bof.
I…I… don’t know what to believe anymore. First the orphanage burns down, then those nuns die when a bus blows up……..
I have to ask, what was the joke?
Yes, please! I would like to laugh instead of shake my head in sadness.
I always have to wonder when something happens like this, or a horrible misspelling, if that tattoo artist just sits there quietly chuckling to himself, and goes along with it. But even if this is a joke…I can’t think of one explaination that would make me crack a smile. “Dude, this one time, I was soo stoned that I thought the black light poster of Hendrix was actually Marley! heh. heh.”
this is a terrible joke then…
BOB MARLEY and JIMI HENDRIX are two different people.
Thanks for clearing that up.
Anyway, this is obviously Michael Jackson.
obviously
I thought it was Rick James!
Cab Calloway? B.B. King?
They all look alike.
Dude I know the artist and this was done on Purpose so all these little jokes n shit aint shit. . . He’s a sick ass artist and he knows his shit. . . . (the end) -Shangu’
What the fuck are you talking about?
He’s talking shit.
Ugh…
yes, because people purposely put the wrong name to the wrong face all the time and it’s marvelous.
Shit, he’s a sick ass artist n shit ain’t shit. Dude, thanks for clearing that shit up. Shit, don’t let anyone tell you that you sound like a seventh grade dropout.
Win!
You know the artist. That’s all I got out of this…
-Shamu’
English, motherfucker! Do you speak it?!
-Jules
shit can’t you read n shit? all of your little jokes don’t mean shit cuz she is a sick ass speaker n shit! So don’t talk shit bout the shit she’s talking shit about… shit.
shit.
“Sick-ass Artist ain’t no country I ever heard of!!”
Wait…So this is a tattoo of Samuel L Jackson?
yes… wait micheal jackson
W-w-what?
—soon to be dead white boy
lmao…
No one denied the work as not being good – it is. We are wondering why – if it is a joke then so be it. I often wonder how many tattoo artist go “You SURE this is what you want? REALLY – just like you have written it there? – I’ll just get a photocopy, initials and sign this form please. Okay – J U D G -”
Reference win!
First.
^^and when i say “First”, i mean i posted a link to this image in the discussion below some other tattoo somewhere on UT months ago.
credit to the artist that everyone instantly knows it’s hendrix.
I remember and was properly outraged. And now I am glad that it’s a joke.
A few years later he started wearing make up and became Prince.
I lol’d.
What a douchebag! This makes me Angry!!
Hulk smash!
I love you Cleo. Double win bonus points!
Head, this is Desk. Desk, let me introduce you to my friend, Head….
hendrix is the greatist guitarist ever. i was12 when he toured buffalo, and my parents did not let me go. did see marley blow the crowd away in madison. the audience wept, as we knew he was dying.
the audience wept? haha. how wet.
Ahahaaaaahhhahahahahahahahhahahaaa ha ha ha ha ha ha hee hee hee hee hee hee hee
(winds down, giggling)
hee hee hee
Man, what a FUNNY joke! I couldn’t get over it! Doing Hendrix and calling him Marley! Wow, brilliant! (Sarcasm there, see?)
whats sad is that this is a very well executed tattoo.. youd think someone would have noticed/said something before he actually got tattooed
Sorry… for a moment I thought it was Bob Ross
Oh…that’s a little more acceptable
So if I got a tattoo of David Bowie, and the letters underneath said John Lennon, it would be a hilarious joke, even I don’t actually get why it’s funny?
No. It is funny in the trying-way-to-hard (times 10) kind of funny which ends up making it funny in a whacked out kind of way. Or maybe not. It really depends on your mood/state of mind at the time you spot this tat and it’s explained to you. But, 7 times out of 10 you think, “What a douche.” The other 3 times out of 10 you high five said tatted dude/chick and laugh hysterically together and/or you curl up in a ball and whimper.
I vote douche 10 out of 10 times!
go talk to kristen.
I was thinking that maybe this was on a person whose alphabet is very different than English…. you know…. like when white folks get a tattoo with Chinese symbols? And maybe there was a mistake…. but no, I see that it’s done on purpose which totally SUCKS!
I thought it was Samuel L. Jackson
I thought it was Eddie Murphy.
I thought it was Chris Rock.
i thought it was will smith
i thought it was ice cube
It could’ve been any of those hahahahahaha
I thought it was George Jefferson. Weezie! Come look at this!
Guess it just goes to prove that they really do all look alike
I understand that this is a joke, but is it really funny enough to make it worthwhile to have a ton of people come up to you and call you an idiot? Especially when after you explain that it’s a joke, they still call you an idiot.
I don’t understand how this is a joke. Unless the the person who got the tattoo enjoys being ridiculed for being stupid, and the joke is on him. Permanently. And he likes it that way. I vote douche 10 out of 10 also.
Jimi Hendrix is Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley is Bob Marley, so WTF?
Yeah, gotta add my two cents of WTF? to the pile. But damn, one of the best portrait tattoos I’ve seen.
Omg I LOVE his song “Buffalo Child.” …Or was it “Voodoo Soldier?” I can’t quite remember.
Wrong black guy, you dolt! Contrary to your belief, they don’t all look alike.
Only most of them…
Haha hey everyone. Its amazing to see this tattoo got so much popularity and infamy from thousands of people. This tattoo was done on purpose. It is Jimi Hendrix. The banner does say Bob Marley. The guy who got it is a DJ and wondered how much shit this tattoo would get haha.
We did it at my studio… and while you may not agree with the tattoo..haha you cant deny its an amazing piece of work…
we also thought of other funny ones.. like get a tattoo of Emilio Estevez and get a banner saying “michael j fox”
ish like that
It’s still not funny.
Can you explain the joke behind it though, why is it funny?
NOT funny at all. Hit yourself.
Yes, beautiful tattoo. Really stupid joke. Epic fail on the funny part.
he could add:
“couldn’t string Jimi Hendrix’s guitar” or words to that effect.
Just saying
the MOST epic tattoo FAIL!
With all the bad tattoos that are out there, horrible artwork, etc… I have to say, I’ll take a joke (whether funny or not) over bad artwork any day… on a personal note, I think this tattoo is both well done as a portrait and I can appreciate the humor.
This is a rip off from british t shirt company African apparel-this was their first shirt a few years back. http://africanapparel.bigcartel.com/
It could have been worse, a lot worse. It could have said Bono underneath. Mrdogvomit
Someone should kick that person in the mouth
thats just insulting…
I’ve never really wanted a tattoo, but if I would, this would be the one…with the correct name, of course. Hendrix is the epitome of guitar playing, hands down. Hmmmm…maybe I’ll go get him tat’d on my bald spot!!!
Oh… ohhh…. ohhh… wow… ohhh… biggest ink fail ever.
even if this is a joke it is just disrespectful to the artist because they have done great things and changed music forever to just go and crack a joke its like what the hell were you thinking?
http://africanapparel.bigcartel.com/product/john-marley-t-shirt
maybe the guy was trying to be racist by not know which one was which or something to that extent, after all he did use the gangster letters
Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Because I listen to Music about life and love and freedom from a legend like Bob Marley you call me a Dirty Hippie ? I just lost respect for you and Have now changed my TV Channel and have blocked TV 6 news
It looks like Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix had a baby.
