Did you guys have Garbage Pail Kids cards? I collected those things like mad. I did a lot of dumb stuff when I was a kid.

Speaking of dumb stuff, a year or so ago I was sitting in my cubicle doing what I usually do (stare into space) when—much like a PTSD sufferer—I had a sudden flashback to having seen a Garbage Pail Kids movie.

I first assumed that I was just remembering a nightmare, since the flashback looked a lot like one of my nightmares. But a quick search of my frenemy the Internet revealed that it was an actual thing that actual humans actually agreed to film on actual film and show to actual audiences who—unless there’s a major cover-up going on here—actually didn’t commit mass suicide on opening weekend.

If you ever wondered if there’s a god, just watch the trailer for this movie and you’ll know that the answer is no. There’s no god, there’s no limit to how low humans can sink, and there’s no fashion crime that didn’t get committed in the eighties. I think you can watch pretty much the whole film in chunks on Youtube, in case anyone at Guantanamo is looking for new interrogation techniques.

You know what keeps me coming back to this site? Nope, it’s not the bad tattoos or the common mizpellings. It’s not the ignorance of youth or bad decision making skills. It ‘s not even the clever comments about being 80 and pregnant with a bad tattoo. It’s the insight comments and in depth research done and provide by our girl Jessica and at absolutely no extra charge to us. Your comments brighten my day and never fail humor me and bring back memories of my youth. Keep on Keeping on Jessica. Just don’t end up with crappy ink.

    • MTG says:

Second! Cheers for Jessica! You rock, girl!

      • Anna Rexia says:

As always, this is one bandwagon I will hop upon.

ps @ Suzi: I haven’t seen you around lately, so you probably missed my note to you last week. If you’re the one in Iowa, I LOVE your work, especially your “stuffed animal/cartoon character” type drawings and tattoos. Major props if those are yours!

        • Tattooed Suzi says:

Ummm…..No. Not my work, not my ink and I am not in Iowa. I am here all the time just somedays I don’t find much to comment about. Just lurking in the shadow waiting to pounce on easy prey.

        • tina says:

Hoppin’ on the bandwagon with y’all (I hope the bandwagon is strong enough to hold my weight xD)

    • Tattooed Suzi says:

Damn it. Sorry for the broken grammar in my earlier post. I make my posts from my BlackBerry and I usually don’t take the time to proof read before hitting send. Oh well at least it is not tattooed on my body.

    • MandyFesto says:

100% agreed. Jessica is hilarious and brilliant and yet always oddly charming.

  2. Melissa says:

Meh. When I was growing up, we had Wacky Packs, or Wacky Packages.

    • Melissa says:

My lunchbox was covered with them. I always thought Garbage Pail Kids were a ripoff of Wacky Packs, but I’m older now and they have their own charm.
I keep thinking the first tat is horribly done, but it’s pretty darn close to the card, funky hand and all.

  3. inkybear says:

the wikipedia entry says that art spiegelman, of all people, is responsible for these horrors.

  4. TheSheep says:

For me, the first one is made of awesome; the second, not so much.

    • Leahahah (atheist) says:

Yeah I actually think the first one is pretty cool, nice work.

      • glowworm2k says:

It wouldn’t be my first choice for a design, but the first one is quite well executed.

The second one, however, can be put in the same camp as all of those crappy Bugs Bunny and Tasmanian Devil tattoos that people get in reminiscence of their youth.

  5. Johnno says:

I actually remember “Adam Bomb” ( #2). Cool tats.

  6. Sarah says:

Sometimes when I was a kid, I’d take my $1.00 allowance, walk down the street to the 7-11 with my sister, and spend $0.46 on a candy bar, and the rest on a pack of Garbage Pail Kids. Awesome!

    • Orionsbelt3 says:

My sister and I did the same thing until we moved on to the next fad. I seem to recall building up our Smurf collection around that time. Ahhhh…the halcyon days of youth.

  7. jamisings says:

Don’t be stupid. There IS a God. Sadly, God gave us free will which means we will choose to do stupid, evil, and/or tasteless things.

Don’t blame God for the stupid choices of human beings. God does not control us.

    And I always hated GPK.

  8. Patt whelan says:

I’m a regular visitor to this website, so it’s awesome to find my own tattoo on here! That first one is my thigh. Sorry if you think a GPK tattoo is stupid but those cards helped shaped my imagination as a kid. Right next to it is a Madball, remember those?

    • Elizabeth says:

Eh, the subject may be up for argument, but the artwork is awesome. And officially, I think you’re cool for not getting all whiny when your tattoo made it on here.

    • Brianna says:

Actually, your tattoo was very well executed! People may be coming to you now for the name of your tattoo artist.

    • Anna Rexia says:

Damn, dude. That’s like winning an award. I mean, look at the number of thumbs-up votes compared to thumbs-down ones. The voting thing still confuses a lot of people, so that’s quite a good ratio you have going for you. Do you have any pictures of the other tat (the Madball one)? Who did the GPK one? Credit where credit is due, and all that stuff, yaknow. =)

    • Lucky_Cat says:

It’s not something I would choose for a tattoo, but the execution is awesome.

You have a thicker skin then me. I would cry for a week if my tattoo showed up here. LOL

  9. Jam says:

First one is good, but everything else looks like crap after clicking through a couple hundred pictures of Nick Baxter tattoos (pickle balls artist).

  10. jmod says:

I loved madballs! Anyone for Thundarr the Barbarian?

  11. J says:

I am stunned – stunned…. to see that such a movie was created. How will we ever match those great special effects??!!

  12. Snapshot says:

I was just a shade too old to be buying GPK cards when they were first popular, but I remember being bombarded by the movie trailer in the theater. I believe it was the first time I said “What the f*ck?” out loud. Memories!

@Patt-there is probably still a madball kicking around my parents’ house.

  13. Lucky_Cat says:

I am shocked that I did not make my parents take me to the Garbage Pail Kids movie. I had the BIGGEST crush on Mackenzie Astin when he was Andy on The Facts of Life.

  14. gypsy ingram-stow says:

ii also have severe ptsva says one of worst cases they ever saw, suppose that is one reason we inflict pain on self,n form of art,as opposed to alternative?when asked why i love my tats,i say half scot/half native, all of whom did tats, but also i theorize,it helps not inflict pain on people who would pressure me to point of insnity-ha.

  15. gypsy ingram-stow says:

i am so old now,i remember connect the dot puzzles n school, being a rare mutation=redhair, bronze freckles,i took it literally&tried to connect the dots.

  16. Jabraille says:

OMG I SAW SOME OF THIS. Not in my misspent youth, but more recently, on television. I only watched for about 5 seconds, which I believe was the exact length of time it took me to find the remote and throw it at the TV off-switch.

And that was enough to bring me to the “there is no god” conclusion. x.x

  17. Leine says:

The Nostalgia Critic panned this one a while back. It fractured the time-space continuum.

    • A. says:

Not only did he pan it, he says in the commentary video that it was the worst movie he’s ever reviewed, and that it actually broke him and his brother as human beings for a long while afterwards. He talks about how he was trying to write jokes about it and how he was just beaten down by the awfulness.

  18. Star says:

I shit you not, I own that movie. I bought it for like $1 at work two years ago. What amazes me is that apparently there was enough demand to transfer it from vhs to dvd…

  19. notolaf says:

I almost watched that movie today…and I will soon. Nobody can stop me! Mwa-ha-ha-ha-ha!

  20. Theda says:

I actually own The Garbage Pail Kids Movie on DVD. I love it and I don’t care what sort of person that makes me!

  21. HRNK says:

I watched the trailer to The Garbage Pail Kids movie, and I farted.

  22. imbaduluvit says:

I own this movie. true story.

  23. Anna Rexia says:

    I blame god for jamisings.

    Er. Wait. Dammit!
