Damn, that’s pretty impressive. My dog made it to Private First Class in the army, but eventually got discharged for sniffing a commanding officer’s genitals. Stupid “Don’t ask, don’t tell.”

  1. zen says:

is it wrong to think that this tattoo is made of pure win? ^^

  2. Deanna says:

I wouldn’t ever get it, but it’s very well done. I like how the coat looks like a cartoon, but the dog is realistic. I want to know the story behind it.

Reminiscent of those sesame street dogs..

  3. Melissa says:

I just had the goofiest thought…. Too see a dog dressed like that humping someone’s leg.

  4. LadyBelle says:

Amazingly well done. Some of these should come with artist credit.

  5. K says:

I totally want to get one a bit like that, but with a meerkat, not a dog.

  6. kirby says:

    EPIC. Just. Purely. EPIC!

  7. taylor says:

This is fantastic. I see nothing wrong with it.

  8. Snookie_Townshend says:

    Agreed. Epic tattoo win.

  9. Courtney says:

Might I just say that the casual Horatio Hornblower reference in the title of this post 100% MADE MY DAY?! Thank you thank you thank you.

  10. Blake says:

Nice! Although I kind of wish she would’ve incorparated some milkbones into the frame.

    • anna2 says:

that would have been awesome. I really like this too, but I find the placement (either the arm or the back of the calf) a little off. Maybe on the chest, like a badge?

  11. Em says:

There’s a company that will do portraits like this of your pets: http://www.doriangreyhound.com/

Unfortunately, I hear it’s super expensive (obviously, that’d be alot of work). I’d loooooove one though.

  12. sassysue says:

I would have liked it better if the whole thing was realistic instead of the outfit all cartoony. The dog looks GREAT though. Much better than all those cat tattoos!!

  13. Me says:

This is one of the ~few~ tattoos on this site I can say that if I saw on the street, I WOULD NOT automatically think, “Geez, what a moron.”

  14. ryan says:

    awesome.

  15. Stripperclip says:

This tattoo is made of “Fucking Win” and “Awesome”. I am Herbert J. Stripperclip, and I endorse this message.

  16. icruise says:

I think you mean “don’t ask, don’t smell.”

  17. ben says:

i was going to leave a comment about how i actually thought this tattoo was about ten kinds of awesome, but it appears the masses agree with me on this one. the moment i saw it was a simultaneous “awww” and “YES.” don’t try to re-create that. it’s impossible.

  18. Sheryl says:

Definitely a win. There is really nothing I don’t like about this, and I agree with LadyBelle: this one needs artist credit.

  19. Noelegy says:

Nifty. Well-done, clever, not so trendy that it will be regrettable in a few years, and someone loves animals. All around awesome.

  20. Courteney says:

    this is very 10th kingdom…

  21. Seven says:

This was done by my tattoo artist, Ryan Mason at Scapegoat in Portland, OR. All of his work is really great!

    • Anna Rexia says:

Thank you!! It’s not often around here we get to see credit where credit (or, often, blame) is due. I like to search images to see if I can find originals in hopes of learning who the artist is, but this one came up blank. I’d love to see more of Ryan’s work. From what he has in his album at scapegoattattoo.com, the man has some serious talent. Awesome stuff!!

  22. Denice B says:

I love this one. I would get this, only with my cat Haku’s face. Very nice!

  23. tally says:

yes! hahaha this tattoo is amazing!

  24. Yes says:

If this is an embellished effigy of an immortalized pet, then it’s wonderful. If this person never met this dog, it’s strange.

  25. flsweethrt says:

It’s the cover portrait for Scuppers the Sailor Dog’s Autobiography: “Memoirs of a Sea Dog”

    • Michael says:

I knew it was Scuppers as soon as I saw it! I love Scuppers!
      “I’m Scuppers the Sailor Dog,
      I’m Scuppers the Sailor Dog,
I can sail in a gale,
      right over a whale,
under full sail, in a fog.
I am Scuppers the Sailor Dog,
      I’m Scuppers the Sailor Dog,
with a shake and a snort,
      I can sail into port,
under full sail, in a fog.”
      Genuine Awesome.

  26. Nobo says:

I can’t tell if this is awesome or terrible.

  27. Eris says:

If I were going to get a tattoo, it would be one like this, but with my yellow Lab!

  28. Wolf says:

most beautiful Furry I´ve seen for a while =)

  29. Hexapyro says:

That’s a great tattoo. Should be removed from this site.

  30. SidSuicide says:

Dogs actually *DO* have rank in the army. They come in as lieutenants!

As for the tattoo, love it!

    • fernblatt says:

I guess the US Army working dogs I saw once at Ft Campbell were trainees, since the two that I saw were Spec5′s according to their handlers. LOL

  31. nina says:

this looks like a JEN LEE tattoo from Tattoo City in San Francisco. and this is awesome!!!

  32. john deere says:

This is agreat tatoo. The artwork is incredible.

  33. Katy says:

This is a tattoo by Ryan Mason, an amazing artist in Portland who also, might I add, just posted a tattoo he did of a giraffe in the same exact fashion

  34. Lizz Kuehl says:

p.s. the tattoo is of jacob’s dearly departed family dog, nike, and it’s a scientific fact that only jerks say mean things about sweet dead pups.

  35. Ani says:

I’m amused by the ad that came up next to this tat: http://i55.tinypic.com/293il8i.jpg

  36. Scott from over there says:

A little late, but glad to see Ryan getting some positive comments on his tattoos. I’ve noticed that a few of his other tattoos have been posted on here which is a shame considering he is an amazing tattoo artist.
