Compelled to do my due diligence and thoroughly research this image* before posting it (lest I get a million comments that say, “You IDIOT, you haven’t seen [name of some stupid Internet video featuring a unicorn fighting a robot dolphin] on [name of some stupid Internet site that features things like videos of unicorns fighting robot dolphins]?!!?!?!?!!!!11!?! It’s HILARIOUS.”), I’ve determined that it’s from deviantART, a site that, as far as I can tell, is for emotionally disturbed teenagers to post Photoshopped pictures of themselves having sex with their favorite Dragon Ball Z characters.
Anyway, this particular deviant seems to have struck a chord among his peers, because we have not one, but TWO tattoos of his masterwork:

Leaving aside the strangeness of the source material for a moment, I think this is a good example of why it is important to have a qualified tattooer do your work. Two tattoos of the same image: One looks like it was doodled onto the skin by a 4th grader with crayola washable markers, and the other looks rather like a respectable tattoo. Besides the fact that it is of a unicorn fighting a robot dolphin, of course.
Exactly what I was thinking. The second one looks a lot better than the first, though apparently neither look like the original source material.
Not all of Deviantart artist are disturbed like you said. Some of us are real artists.

The monsters in the 1st picture look like they’re happy life time partners. And I don’t even know what that thing is popping out of the unicorn monster’s chest in the 2nd one. A heart ventricle?

im still slightly confused by the anatomy of the first unicorn… after some studying i managed to figure out the lower jaw [which is pretty crocodile-like] but the left front leg… it just doesnt make sense. its like an optical illusion.
second tattoo is markedly better, but still confusing… what is coming alien-like out of the middle of its chest?? and now its nose looks like a cartoon rat… i think this is just bad source material. well obvs.

What is with the unicorn’s tail? That is NOT a horse’s tail, it looks like a lion’s if anything. The original picture is the same, so that isn’t the tattoo artist’s fault, but seriously, WTF?
In mythology, unicorns are typically represented as having the hooves of a deer/goat, the tail of a lion, and the rest of the features of a horse with the obligatory single horn.
A lot have goat-beards as well.

I hope that they die in the desert of dehyrdration. Not because I have any ill-will towards them, but in order that future archeologists may discover their perfectly-preserved corpses, and draw elaborate conclusions about our culture and religion from these rather arbitrary tattoos.

My guess: zombie unicorn. It’s more obvious in the second. And, to be fair, featuring some famous artists doesn’t legitimize DeviantArt. Elfwood has famous artists’ galleries on their site too. Hell, even graffiti has “famous” artists. The case in all three is that some of the stuff is famous, some of it is awesome, but 90% of it is masturbatory fantasies drawn by people with the skills of your average 4th grader.
even though this tattoo is not very attractive, i do not appreciate such inaccurate comments about deviantart and their artists. a large part of the cheezburger network fan base is at deviantart, insulting them is uncalled for and, frankly, stupid. while some people are eccentric, it is not fair to lump such a diverse group of this generation’s up-and-coming great artist in such an insulting way.
oh come on, we all know it was in good humor. there are some completely kick ass artists on DeviantArt, and i mean like cream of the crop kick ass. Don’t get your feeling hurts. If you coulnd’t tell, most of the cheezburger network is run off of pure humor/sarcasm anyways.

Aquila, the insult happened when the first guy got a very poorly done tattoo of the original artwork. And a larger part of the cheezburger network fan base is ALL OVER THE INTERNET. It’s not like it’s some exclusive club of only deviantart fans, everyone and their brother likes looking at funny pictures of stupid people and cute animals.
Whilst I take no personal offense from the deviant art comment, as I think none of you should- for god sakes…it’s a site about insulting tattoos on every subject matter! As well as it IS NOT an exclusive “fan club” I will say a very large majority of artists do belong to deviant art, which in turn an also large majority frequent ugliest tattoos as well as other icanhas sister sites. All in all, everyone just needs to get over it, I do totally agree a large amount of dev users are stupid emo kids, and YES there are a large number of also kick ass users who over shadow those retards,,, but that is not the moral which IS that she meant no harm

For the first photo: I can’t really understand where the horse’s chin is coming out of, let alone his left front limb. Just a horrible drawing in general.
For the second photo: why does the dolphin look like a dinosaur? And to me I think the thing popping out of its chest might be its aorta or jugular– which last summer at my vet clinic I DID see a dog with its jugular hanging out after getting bitten by another dog (and owner had no money so just wanted us “stick it back in and sew him up”).
And as far as DeviantArt is concerned, I don’t know what you guys saw, but it’s actually a rather good website. There is a lot of professional art (and a lot of great art by amateurs, too).
I think the problem with the unicorn’s jaw in the first picture is this: The tattooer forgot to add in the jaw bone. It’s my feeling that just a single line represening the jaw bone, in the place that one would expect it to be, would clear up an alwful lot of the questions about what the fuck is going on with that unicorn. As it is, the mouth is left looking rather crocodile-like. Or like his mouth is just stuck open forever and his skeletal structure offers no mechanism for closing it.

Before you even think about getting into the business, please do the world a favor and TAKE SOME DRAWING COURSES! Hell, just go online and look up anatomy drawing tutorials for various animals. I hate it when people try to draw something without having a clue what it actually looks like. I’ve seen toddlers draw better unicorns than that.

The “robot dolphin” is supposed to be Nessie, the Loch Ness monster. It’s wearing a traditional tartan kilt & sash. Still creepy lookin though.
