She Also Has Five Boobs, But This Isn’t About That

I’m sure this design is loaded with deeply personal symbolic meaning. Or at least that you thought so when you were having that acid flashback and skipped down to the nearest tattoo parlor.

Whatever it is, it’s scaring the dog.

  1. The three legs running in a circle is the crest of the Isle of Man. The Manx are an extremely patriotic people. Not sure what all the other parts meana, but they’re probably related.

    • Jennifer says:

that’s a trinacria – from the flag of the Kingdom of Siciliy…the three legs represent the three points of the island’s shape. good try though…

      • jeff says:

KINGDOM of sicily? You sat very close to the window in geography, didn’t you???
sicily is still a part of italy….

        • paolo says:

Sicily is a part of italy, but before 1860 it was a kingdom. In effects, the name of the kingdom was “kingdom of the two sicilies” and it included southern italy and sicily. The sicily flag was trinacria.

  2. Actually, this tattoo has nothing to do with the owner’s LSD-induced hallucinations. It is, in fact, is the emblem of Sicily: the winged head of Medusa superimposed over a triskelion. I happen to think that patriotism is pretty stupid, but in this case the tattoo is no more unusual than, say, the American eagle.

  3. Oddball says:

Yeah, that definately looks like the Manx version of the Triskelion, which is a very popular tattoo over on the Isle of Man.

I don’t understand the rest of it though; as, unless that’s a woman the tattoo owner knows, I have no idea who she could be. The only famous woman I can think of that she could be would be Saint Brigid, but she’s a bit obscure nowadays, and had no connection to snakes as per my knowledge.

So yeah, confusing tattoo. Intriguing though.

  4. They use that symbol in sicily as well as they only have three seasons over there. each leg stands for one of them.

  5. sergio depo says:

hi, this is the symbol of sicily the italian island! not a monster! its name’s “Triscele”:
its name come from greek “tri” that means “three” and “acria” that means promontory.
trinacria is also the ancient sicily name

    bye!!
    sergio

  6. car says:

    its representing sicily

  7. alessandra says:

This is the Trinacria symbol, that was the old greek name for Sicily

  8. Sof says:

Patriotic symbol or not, it’s still a pretty crappy execution.

  9. Charlene says:

It’s a badly done (and overly large trinacria, but it’s no more stupid than an eagle or a maple leaf.

  10. laurz0rs says:

its definitely the trinicria aka sicilian symbol. the three legs represent the three corners of the island.

this version is really shitty. i have one on my back but it isn’t as traditional and it came out better than this. i got it because my whole family is from there and i’m proud of my heritage so yeah its patriotic but whatevs. i wanted it for forever. it means something important to me.
its better than getting a random butterfly.

  11. Davirus says:

Who cares about the origin, the fucking tattoo is horrible as hell.

  12. cosmic says:

I wouldn’t really consider it “ugly”. As others have pointed out, this symbol is called the Trinacria, or the Sicilian Triskelion. It’s on the Sicilian flag as well as several historical coins, and traces its origins back thousands of years. The head is Medusa, and the three legs have a whole variety of different meanings.

I will admit that the scale of the tattoo on the arm looks slightly weird, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the design itself. It’s certainly a lot cooler than the thousands of people with tribal band tattoos and other meaningless shape/symbols.

I’m actually planning to get a similar tattoo on my upper back one day… although I want mine to be more colorful and in a different style. For me, it’s a reminder/tribute to my heritage, and all of the ways it has shaped who I am today.

  13. LaLa says:

this is the Sicilian symbol dumb asses! Could be better but don’t knock the Sicilians! Vaffancullo!

  14. Jennifer says:

People seem to be confused. No one’s knocking Sicilians. The tattoo is just simply bad.

  15. Calm yourselves. It’s just a bad tattoo.

  16. Mary contrary says:

Maybe in some outback part of the country where pigeons and cats are food.

    • Corinna says:

Mary it really is the symbol of Sicily- its all over, on the flag, on ornaments of all types, t-shirts, postcards, jewelry of all kinds, clothing, magnets, posters, etc. My daughter lived there for a year, and we (her parents) visited there, living with Sicilian families. A person could not possibly spend any time there without seeing this emblem all over the place. Maybe we got used to it, I don’t know, but done well, its nice. This tat is poorly done, for sure, but its no ‘backwoods’ symbol, that is for sure! VERY mainstream in Catania, and all the other communities of all sizes.

  17. Bill Gama says:

“Whatever it is, it’s scaring the dog.”

Roflmao, whoever made this sites is a freaking genius! The comments are even funnier then the tattoos! I love failblog too, but this is much better! XD

  18. Manx says:

As a proud owner of a Manx triskelion tattoo, I can definitely say this is NOT our version. It’s a really crappy Sicilian version, as others have mentioned.

Patriotism = Win. Shitty patriotic tattoos = FAIL.

  19. Kyle says:

This is actually my Tattoo and yes it was horribly done. I have since had it completely done over. It looks much better now

  20. Sicilian Princess says:

It is the symbol of Sicily. The Trinacria appears on the Sicilian Flag.
My Trinacria tatoo is on my upper back, and yes I am Sicilian and had it done because I am proud of my Sicilian heritage. Mine version is done with the traditional colors of Red and Yellow.

  21. desa says:

    Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. :D

  22. Ahetma Vaakenjaab says:

I’m wondering, after reading 20+ responses, if this is perhaps the symbol of Sicily. Maybe the woman in the middle is Cicely Tyson?

  23. Amanda says:

    it’s the lady of Sicily.

  24. Todd says:

Its the sicily symbol but for all of you saying its just like an American Eagle, no way it really is stupid, just like Sicilians.

  25. Misti says:

Like other people have said – it’s the symbol of Sicily. I live there and it’s EVERYWHERE. The woman is Medusa; Sicily was thought to be the home of Medusa. The legs represent the three points of the island. So even if people may not like it, I wouldn’t consider this a bad tattoo necessarily. Though it probably could’ve been done better.

  26. idiots says:

    i like the snakes.

  27. marco says:

Trinacria the three points of sicily like the island and Sicilians always land on their feet the face is madusa refering to the greek influence when they invaded and occupied sicily and i tyink its an awsome symbol just a shitely done tatt in a bad posi and the wrong size

  28. DaDaDa says:

It was sad. Very sad. She was beautiful, but born with three legs.

  29. KT4HIMx says:

Is it weird that the other day I went to a cafe in Ashby, and this was their symbol? o.O
